Future Road Competition 2023

The inaugural Future Road Competition in 2023 invites engineering students from eligible Universities to participate in a competition that will challenge their application of Safe System knowledge and skills, to help prevent serious injury and lives lost on Victorian roads.

Teams of students are tasked to propose solutions to a real-world design project, a TAC funded project in Mildura Rural City Council, the Merbein Pedestrian and Cyclist Safety Project that will run in parallel with the competition. 

The competition challenges students to: 


  • apply theoretical Safe System knowledge to a real-world TAC funded project 

  • effectively work in a collaborative team environment to deliver a proposal 

  • gain industry experience and professional development opportunities 

The competition is open to all undergraduate engineering students currently enrolled in one of the following four participating Universities: 


  • Monash University 

  • Swinburne University 

  • Deakin University 

  • RMIT University
